Chandigarh 24th February:-- National Immunization Day (NID) for vaccination against polio are being observed with 2200 Health workers of various departments in U.T. Chandigarh from feb, 23 to 25th, 2014. World health Organization monitoring teams/other agencies have chipped in, to ensure 100% coverage of the children of 0-5 year of age during national round. Chandigarh has been polio free since 2006. At National Level, India has been able to remain polio free since 13th January 2011.
Speaking at the inaugural session of National Immunization Round (NID) at Indira Colony, Secretary Health, Anil Kumar said that, together we can make history by eradicating polio. He appreciated the heroes worked in the field to deliver vaccines to children. The hard work and their noble contribution of all the teams at ground level are commendable. He appreciated efforts being done by various departments to make polio campaign successful. Secretary Health himself administered polio drops to children in Indira Colony and colony No. 4. Director Health Services Dr. Nirlep Kaur said, that we have been given the unique opportunity to end polio now and provide a lasting legacy for the children. Together we must give to achieve this important global milestone. The members from Rotary club, teams from World Health Organization, Local participants, Medical Superintendent-GMSH-16,District Family Welfare Officer, District Immunization Officer, SMO Incharge Manimajra, Additional Medical officer Municipal Corporation are also present. 58597 numberof children were vaccinated on 23-02-2014. The campaign shall be continued on 24-02-2014 and 25-02-2014 also. DFWO and DIO requested the parents to get all the routine immunization for their children.
