Chandigarh 29th January:---- As many as 300 students pedaled in a “Cyclothon”, organised under the Oil & Gas Conservation Fortnight (OGCF) 2014, by Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (HPCL). The students of DAV Senior Secondary School(Lahore), Chandigarh through their effort, drove home the point that Oil and Gas were fast depleting and that there was an urgent need of conserving these. Dr. Vibha Ray, Principal, DAV Senior Secondary School(Lahore),Chandigarh flagged off the cyclothon in the presence of State Level Coordinator, U.T. Chandigarh & Senior Regional Manager of HPCL, Krishan K. Handa. The young cyclists presented a pretty picture as they cycled from Sec 8 to the Lake and then the World famous Rock Garden before returning to the start point – DAV senior Secondary School in Sec 8, Chandigarh. Another reason why it has become imperative to decrease the consumption of these fuels is the fact that their prices are increasing quite fast. The effort by the young cyclists will certainly ignite parents and elders into action

The students had made very catchy slogans that gave the message of protecting the ecology and using Oil and Natural Gas sparingly, so that the same last for a longer time. Krishan K. Handa, said that “Under this initiative, we are sensitizing people at large, about the dire need of saving these natural resources. The activity today has been done by school children who made it amply clear that the only way to save these natural resources is ‘conservation’. We have been involving members of Oil Industry, Officials of Chandigarh Administration, Prominent Citizens, Industrialists, Journalists, Lecturers, Teachers, Students, Transporters, Agriculturists and Dealers of retail outlets of Petrol & Diesel, Kerosene & LPG in this campaign, aimed to achieve something which certainly is a National cause.
