Condolence Meeting Held To Pay Homage to Dr.J.G.Jolly

Chandigarh 09th October: --- To pay homage to Dr.J.G.Jolly a condolence meeting was held today under the chairmanship of Prof. Yogesh Chawla, Director, PGIMER to mourn the sad demise of Prof.J.G.Jolly, Emeritus Professor, Department of Transfusion Medicine, PGIMER. Rich tributes were paid by his contemporaries like Dr B D Gupta, Dr B L Talwar. Former Directors and Professors, heads of departments, faculty members, administrative staff and the resident doctors joined to mourn his death. Prof. Jolly joined the Institute in 1963 and pioneered the voluntary blood donation movement in the country and due to his efforts the region has achieved more than 90% voluntary blood donation.  There are over 300 blood donor organizations which provide support to the Department. 1st October which is the National Voluntary Blood Donation Day is actually the birth date of Prof.J.G.Jolly. He was the Founder President of the Indian Society of Blood Transfusion & Immunohaematology.   He started dedicated transfusion support programs for thalassemia major patients and also hemophiliacs in the PGIMER, Chandigarh. He was the first to start M.D.Transfusion Medicine course in the country.  After his superannuation from PGIMER, he joined as Founder Head, Department of Transfusion Medicine at SGPGI, Lucknow.
