Chandigarh 18th October: --- The CBSE North Zone-I Taekwondo Championship 2013 got underway at the Skating Rink, Sec 10, Chandigarh. The Championship which is being played from 18th to 20th October 2013 has been organized by Shishu Niketan Public School, Sector 43-A, Chandigarh (SNPS-43).
The first day saw some keen contests in the martial arts sport. Matches under 9 weight categories were played. In a final match of U-19 Boys below 75 Kgs category, Sushanta Raj Kumar of SNPS 43 Bt Vishavdeep Singh of AKSIPS to win Gold. In the Under 14 Boys(Below 35 Kgs category), Vishesh Saluja (Hansraj Model School, Delhi) bt Ritik (Rainbow English Sr. Sec School, Delhi). In Under 19 Boys Below 45 Kgs, Gaurav Choudhary(Happy Home Public school, Delhi) bt Mriganka(ASN Sr Sec School, Delhi) in the final. In Under-14 (Below 45 kgs category), Anmol Thakur(Indraprastha International School, Delhi) was defeated by Yash Antil(New Green field Delhi).
According to Dr. Ashish Sharma, Organising Chairman, that they had made adequate arrangements for smooth conduct of the games. 13 Referees and three technical officers have been pressed into service. What's more, we are using a digital scoring system which has made the games very transparent. He further said that almost 400 students are participating in the tournament. The largest representation has come from Delhi with 45 Schools, 16 schools from Chandigarh, 2 from Jammu and Kashmir, 1 from Ambala and 1 from Himachal Pradesh are participating. The Championship is the seventh and is being played under 30 weight categories.
