Punjab Panchayat Election passes off peacefully recording nearly 85% poll By Babushahi Bureau

Chandigarh,03rd:--Punjab Panchayat polls for electing 13060 Sarpanches and Panches passed off peacefully recording poll percentage of nearly 85%. The poll process started at 8 a.m. and concluded 4 p.m.. The State Election Commission S. S. Brar while talking to Babushahi.com said that the rural voters participated enthusiastically in the polling process and no major incident has been reported from any part of the State. He said that in all, there were 18254 booths for polling, out of which 1634 were declared highly sensitive and 4172 sensitive. As many as 31614 candidates were in fray for election of sarpanches while 1,15,242 candidates contested elections for 81412 wards in the villages. He said that 2069 sarpanches and 24240 panches were elected unanimously by the rural people. Meanwhile, as per reports received from Districts of Bathinda and Patiala poll percentage has been recorded as 87% and 89% respectively.
