Chandigarh, 08 July:-- All the four accused convicted for murdering CA Rajesh Goyal in May 2007, have been awarded life term by the court of district and sessions judge SK Agarwal. Those awarded life term are share broker Kanav Arora, a resident of Sector 21; his employee Shiv Kumar, a resident of Nayagaon; "contract killer" Mandeep Singh, a call centre employee and a resident of Phase 10, SAS Nagar; and Ashwinder Singh. Rajesh Goyal was stabbed to death in May 2007 in his office in sector 42.

As per the police, share broker Kanav Arora had allegedly paid Rs 14 lakh "supari" for pocketing Rs 1.9 crore taken from the victim. The police registered the case on the statement of sole eyewitness to the murder, Kamlesh, who worked as peon at Rajesh Goyal's office. Kamlesh, however, retracted afterwards from his statement given to the police while testifying in the court.

The police registered a case of trespass and murder on the statement of Kamlesh. He was in the office the day of the murder. In his statement, Kamlesh had told the police that Goyal had asked him to get photocopies of some documents. On his return, a person standing outside the cabin stopped him. Kamlesh had said he had seen four men with blood-stained clothes coming down the stairs and leaving in a car parked behind the office.

Later, while testifying in the court, Kamlesh denied even being present on the spot or having seen anyone. In his statement recorded before the court on April 8, 2008, Kamlesh had stated, "I was neither present in the office nor have seen the accused prior to this. I have not given any statement to police, which claimed that I have seen the accused leaving the office. In fact, the police had asked me to sign some blank papers and have no knowledge that what was written on them. It was only after the arrival of the police that I came to know that Goyal was murdered."
