UT Cricket Association and Panjab University Signs MoU to Promote Cricket Development

Chandigarh, Sept.25, 2025:-In a significant step towards advancing sports infrastructure and cricket excellence in the region, UT Cricket Association (UTCA) and Panjab University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Thursday. The collaboration aims to enhance cricket training, infrastructure and academic programs for the holistic development of budding cricketers. This MoU was signed by Devender Sharma, Secretary, UTCA and Prof YP Verma, Registrar, Punjab University. 

Under the MoU, Panjab University will upgrade its existing cricket ground by adding fencing, changing rooms and  toilets for players, storage facilities, irrigation systems, camera stands and lighting.  UTCA, the sole cricket body affiliated with the BCCI in Chandigarh, will prepare and maintain the five playing pitches, outfield and training net pitches to ensure year-round quality facilities for matches and practice.  This understanding helps in envisions the smooth conduct of BCCI and UTCA domestic matches alongwith University's tournament from now onwards. UTCA has already entered into an MoU with Tau Devi Lal Stadium, Panchkula, to expand its official cricketing venues for hosting matches. 

The partnership also envisions joint ventures in cricket and allied academic programs, including specialized training modules, certification courses in cricket coaching, fitness and sports management. Both institutions will share sports facilities, expertise and human resources such as coaches, trainers, physiotherapists and sports scientists.

Present on the occasion, Sanjay Tandon, President, UT Cricket Association said that this MoU will not only provide professional coaching and infrastructure but also pave the way to bring matches of national and international repute to Chandigarh. Our vision is to place the city firmly on the world cricketing map by nurturing talent and hosting events of global standards.

Expressing her sentiments, Prof. Renu Vig, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University also emphasised that Panjab University has always upheld its tradition of excellence in both academics and sports. Through this collaboration with UTCA, we are integrating scientific training, sports management and world-class facilities to ensure our student-cricketers achieve success at the highest levels.
