Panchkula, Sept.20, 2025:-Paras Health Panchkula has successfully implanted the world's smallest and latest generation pacemaker, Micra VR2, in an 81-year-old male cancer survivor with multiple health complications. The rare, high-risk procedure was performed on September 4, 2025, and the patient was safely discharged within 24 hours, marking a major milestone in advanced cardiac care in the region.
The patient, C. Singh, had a complex medical history. A survivor of neck cancer with multiple radiation therapies, he had extensive chest scarring, vocal cord paralysis, and depended on a feeding tube for nutrition. His frail condition was further complicated by repeated infections and frequent episodes of unconsciousness. Investigations revealed complete heart block, a life-threatening condition requiring urgent intervention.
However, due to his age, frailty, and scarred chest, a conventional pacemaker was not an option. Explaining the decision, the treating cardiologist Dr. Naveen Aggarwal, Director, Cardiology – Interventional said that this was a highly challenging case. Given the patient's history, a traditional pacemaker carried significant risks. The Micra VR2 provided a safe and effective alternative. It leaves no scar, avoids infection-prone chest pockets, and ensures faster recovery. The patient has not experienced any further episodes of unconsciousness since the implant.
