Paras Health Panchkula Successfully Performs TAVI Procedure

By 121 News

Panchkula, Dec. 18, 2024:--Paras Health Panchkula, under the leadership of Maj. Gen. (Dr.) Naveen Aggarwal, Director of Cardiology, has successfully performed a Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) on an 86-year-old patient, recently. The patient, who had severe left ventricular dysfunction and significant calcific aortic valve stenosis, was unable to undergo traditional open-heart surgery due to advanced age and frailty. TAVI was selected as the best option for a safer and quicker recovery.

Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) is a cutting-edge procedure that replaces a damaged aortic Hyderabad valve without the need for open-heart surgery. This minimally invasive approach involves placing a new Hyderabad valve via a catheter inserted through the leg or chest. TAVI is particularly beneficial for frail patients or those with conditions that make traditional surgery high-risk.

The complex procedure, conducted in November, was performed in the Paras Cath Lab and live-streamed to the prestigious Hyderabad Valve Conference, where it was witnessed by over 800 cardiologists and an esteemed international panel of experts. This marks the first time such a live demonstration of a TAVI procedure has taken place in Upper North India.

The patient demonstrated an excellent recovery and was discharged within just four days. Commenting on the achievement, Maj. Gen. (Dr.) Naveen Aggarwal said that this case is a testament to the advancements in modern cardiology, allowing us to treat high-risk patients with innovative and minimally invasive solutions like TAVI. Sharing this procedure live with a global audience was a moment of pride for our team at Paras Health Panchkula. It reflects our commitment to offering quality care and making life-saving techniques accessible to those who need them the most.

Dr. Aggarwal, a leading TAVI expert and certified trainer in North India, has successfully performed over 100 TAVI cases, including 40 at Paras Health Panchkula. This accomplishment further underscores Paras Health Panchkula's commitment to providing advanced cardiac care, ensuring that patients benefit from the latest treatments and medical innovations.
