Chandigarh, A magnificent  159-run partnership between skipper Manan Vohra and Arjun Azad, helped Chandigarh to a prolific start of its campaign by defeating Bihar by nine wickets in a one-sided affair of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy at Mumbai on Monday. Earlier, Chandigarh won the toss and decided to field first. Bihar's openers - Bipin Saurabh and skipper Babul Kumar made a steady start to the innings and took the score beyond 60 by the seventh over. ICC Under-19 World Cup star Raj Angad Bawa drew the first blood for home in the form of Babul Kumar (15). Later, Bipin stitched another vital partnership of 52 runs for the second wicket with Ghani and steered the team score to 114. Skipper Manan cashed on Murugan Ashwin in the 14th over and in lieu he provided double successes in a single over by sending Bipin Saurabh (76) and Sachin Kumar (0) leaving the side at 114/3. In the very next over, Bhagminder Lather accounted for Akash Raj (1). Three overs later, Sandeep Sharma ended the dangerous looking innings of Gani (32) leaving half side to pavilion for 146. Bawa sent back Harsh Raj (10) in the 19th over. With unbeaten  Suraj Kashyap (11) and Amod Yadav (12) Bihar amassed 171/6 in the stipulated twenty overs. Bawa (2/15) and Ashwin (2/10) shared two wickets each.

In reply, Chandigarh's opening batsman captain Manan Vohra and Arjun Azad troubled the opposition all around the park. Manan, who brought the team to the verge of victory, lost his wicket at 159 runs. The skipper scored 81 runs off 54 balls with the help of nine fours and two sixes, while Arjun, who remained unbeaten at the other end, also scored 79 runs off 43 balls which included nine boundaries and four sixes. Unbeaten Shivam Bhambri contributed 10 runs.

Chandigarh's next match is scheduled against Sikkim on Tuesday.

Chandigarh: Nishunk Birla's all-round performance helped UT boys to beat Karnataka by 84 runs in a league match of the Vinoo Mankad Trophy being played in Hyderabad on Monday. This is Chandigarh's second win from the third fixture of the tournament.

Earlier, Chandigarh won the toss and decided to bat first but the top order of the team failed to deliver. Chandigarh lost four wickets (Jashan Beniwal – 35, Devang Kaushik – 10, Aryan Verma – 1 and Paras – 13) for 78 runs in the first 25th over. Ishan Gaba and Nikhil played a valuable 121 runs partnership for the fifth wicket to lift the team score for 199. Ishan Gaba (59) and Nikhil (61) scored half-centuries. Meanwhile, Karthik Vardan was out on duck. In his cameo appearance, Nishunk Birla, who came on down eight, smashed 29 runs off 14 balls for a respectable score of 240/9. Suresh Pai (5/40) took five wickets.

In reply, Karnataka team collapsed against the lethal bowling led by Nishunk Birla (5/20) leaving opposition for 76/5. He was well supported by Nikhil (2/24) and Paras (2/41) to bundle out Karnataka for 156 runs in the 37th over. Hardik Raj (37) emerged as the top scorer.

Chandigarh's fourth match is against Mumbai on 18th October.

Chandigarh, UT girls ended their campaign on a losing note at Women's Under-19 ODI tournament with a 141-run defeat against Hyderabad at Kolkata on Monday. Hyderabad gave a tough challenge of 275 runs wherein Kunchala Nitisha scored the highest 78 runs. Rakhi took three wickets from Chandigarh. In reply, Chandigarh was restricted to 133/9 . Sarah (45) was the top scorer.

Chandigarh: Overnight showers followed by wet outfield forced abandonment of the two Vinoo Mankad Trophy matches between Assam Vs J&K at Sector 16 Cricket Stadium and Andhra Pradesh Vs Haryana at Mahajan Cricket Ground on Monday. The only match of the day took place at GMSS School, Sector 26 wherein  in a 23-23 overs affair.  Bihar scored 150/6 with Vaibhav Suryavanshi (72) as  the top scorer. In reply, the lethal bowling led by Vasudev Prasad Singh (5/8) reduced Manipur to 24 runs.
