Chandigarh, Oct. 21, 2023:-The Sardar Bhagwant Singh Memorial Basketball Trophy (BSMBT) 2023 being held in the city concluded at the Sports Complex, Sector 42, Chandigarh. On the final day of the tournament, the players enthusiastically displayed their strength and basketball prowess. The final matches kept the audience riveted until the very end .
Vivek High School, Mohali , competing in the Under-14 boys' category, won the final by defeating Saupin's School, Chandigarh by 37-14 . Ansh Rawat of the winning team was the top scorer for his team with 15 points. Meanwhile, in U-17 boys' Learning Paths School, Mohali won by defeating the team of Vivek High School, Mohali by 46-37. Gurkanwar of the winning team was the top scorer for his team with 19 points.
Meanwhile, Sacred Heart School, Chandigarh defeated Vivek High School, Chandigarh by a score of 25–21 to win in the Under-17 Girls category.
Competing in the girl's Under-14 category, Guru Nanak Public School, Sector 36, Chandigarh registered a victory by defeating Sacred Heart School, Chandigarh 42-29. Simran, a member of the winning team, was the highest scorer with 21 points.
In the final of the boys' Under-12 category, Learning Paths School, Mohali defeated Vivek High School, Mohali 23-10. In the Under-12 girls' category, Sacred Heart School, Chandigarh won the trophy by defeating Vivek High School, Chandigarh 17-9.
A prize distribution event honoring the winning teams was held following the finals of the BSMBT. Vivek High School Chairman HS Mamik and Administrator Vikramjit Singh Mamik presented trophies and cash prizes to the winning teams in several categories for both boys and girls.
On this occasion, the title of Best Player and Player of Tournament was given in different categories of Boys and Girls. Vivek High School, Chandigarh's Rehmat won the Best Player award in Under-12 girls, while Vivek High School, Mohali's Ajitesh took home the honor in Under-12 boys. Samarth of Saupin's School, Chandigarh won the award for Boys in U-14, while Saanvi of Learning Paths School, Mohali won in Under-14 girls. Vivek High School, Chandigarh's Kashvi won the award in Under-17 girls, and Anhad Bhatti of Vivek High School, Mohali won it in U-17 boys.
The title of Player of Tournament went to Challista of Sacred Heart School, Chandigarh in Under-12 girls and Vivaan of Learning Paths in the boys category; Simran of Guru Nanak School, Chandigarh in Under 14 girls category, and Japjeet Singh of Vivek High School, Mohali in boys category; Tanmay of Sacred Heart Chandigarh won in Under 17 girls and Gurkanwar of Learning Paths won the title in the same category in boys.
On this occasion, HS Mamik said that sports are an integral part of the new National Education Policy 2020 and it helps a lot in building the character of children, teaching them the values of solidarity and inclusivity.
Harbeena Randhawa, Principal of Vivek High School, Mohali, said that this tournament is a unique platform for aspiring basketball players who wish to pursue this sport as a career.
