Seasoned Chandigarh rallyist Harvinder Bhola and navigator Chirag Thakur secured overall third rank in 'Rally of Himalayas'organized by Himalayan X-Treme Motorsports club from August 27 to 30. Together they bagged the second rank in Class 4 Group T1 category in the Rally of Himalayas Championship organised in Manali. As many as 90 top rallyists from all over the country participated in "Rally of Himalayas".
Harvinder Bhola and Chirag covered a distance of about 200 kms of competitive stage in 2 hours 47 minutes in Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. Rally was organized in different phases. In the first phase, the rally reached Gramphu via Rohtang Pass from Kothi. From Gramphu the rally reached back to Manali. In the second phase, the rally reached Jispa from Batal . Whereas in the third phase, the rally started from Jispa and ended at Gomoranjan in Zanskar Valley of Ladakh via Shinkula Pass. After this the convoy of the rally reached back to Manali .For the first time, the 650 km long Rally of Himalayas passed through the 16,850 feet high Shikunla Pass.
Regarding the rally, Harvinder Bhola said that the thrill of the rally on the narrow roads of the mountains was very special, for the first time the rally passed through dangerous roads like Rohtang Pass, Shinkula Pass. Despite the steep drop in temperature, we faced all the challenges with brave heart. The icy winds and the sharp curves made the rally route more challenging. Our main challenge was to prepare the suspension of our vehicle with the best setup as each stage was divided into different terrains and each terrain had to deal with a different complex situation. Maintaining the speed at Cold and harsh weather at Shinkula Pass which is 16580 feet above sea level made this expedition more thrilling and added many new memories.
Chirag shared the he is glad that we were able to perform well on the roads of Lahaul-Spiti and Ladakh which is considered the world's most dangerous road in India . This rally proved to be a test of Rallyist's courage and endurance. The terrifying paths gave the participants an opportunity to show the wonderful synergy between a human and his favorite Car.
