Chandigarh Dec. 01, 2020:- The Employees and workers of UT, MC and other departmently run establishment under the banner of Federation of U.T. Employee Workers Chandigarh, Punjab Board Corporation Mahasangh various unions affiliated to CITU Chandigarh and Pensioners Associations back to the agitation launched by UT Powermen Union against the privatization of profit earning and well running UT Electricity Department Chanditgarh and held a Massive Protest rally and demonstration before the office of Executive Engineer, Electricity Operation Division No. 2, New Power House, Chandigarh.
Gopal Datt Joshi Gen. Secy Federation of UT Employees & workers Chandigarh & UT Powermen Union, President Dhian Singh, Amrik Singh, Pan Singh while addressing the Dharna strongly criticize and condemned the privatization policy of Govt. of India and blamed that Govt. of India during the pandemic & introduce, the electricity bill 2020, which is in public domain & the same have not passed in parliament, but Govt. in hurriedly decided to privatized the functioning of distribution of UT's including Chandigarh which is against the provision of Electricity Act, 2003, while opposing the decision of privatizing the UT Electricity department the speakers said that UT Electricity Department is generating profit since last 5 years last year department earn profit Rs. 258 Cr. and this year Rs. 117 Cr & line loss 9.51% last year & Current Year 13.5% (excluding IST loss), which is below the 15% target fix by MoP. The rate in Rs. 2.75 upto 1st 150 unit. No single paisa has been enhances since last 5 years & bagged best utility award since last 5 years. Even acute shortage of men & material the standard performance is being implemented 100% and providing 24X7 Hrs uninterrupted power supply to its consumer thus there is no any reason to sale the 100% share of the department to private money monger.
Raghbir Chand President, Rajinder Katoch senior vice President Harkesh Chand (MC Horticulture), Harpal Singh (MCPH), P kamraj (MC Road), Bhim Sain (UT Road), Kuldip Singh (CITU), Gurpeed Singh, Ram Sarup, Bhagmal Rana, Sucha Singh (Pensioners Association) blamed that the Govt. placed standard bidding document for all state & UTs in contradiction of electricity Act, 2003 and decided to sale 100% share of Board /Corporation to private money mongers. The land & Buildings will be given to them @Rs1/- per month and further decided to hand over GPF & other benefit to the trust of private operators thus did not want to take any responsibility of service benefit of UT Govt. employees, which is not acceptable in any cost and announced against decision to fight with tooth and nail and warn that if the decision of privatization will not be revert back
The protest was also addressed by Gurmeet Singh, Kashmir Singh, Sukhwinder Singh, Ranjit Singh, Harkesh Rana, Tilak Raj, Rajinder Thakur and various other leaders of Union and Sister's Organization and warned that if the decision of privatization will not be reverted and the Administration still remain adamant then the agitational programme will be intensify immediately for which the negative attitude of the Chandigarh Administration will fully responsible for any inconvenience to the public at large. During the Demonstration a memorandum against the Privatization of UT Elecricity Department, Chandigarh sent to Hon'ble Administrator and Advisor to the Administrator through Smt. Navjot Kaur Director Social Welfare.
The protest through a resolution passed in the demonstration strongly criticized and condemned the adamant attitude of Mukesh Anand, Chief Engineer, U.T. Chandigarh for non fixing DPC Meeting regarding promotion of Lineman and Service Station Attandant even inspite of direction given by Home Secretary and further blamed that the Chief Engineer is unnecessary intervening in the matter of all the departments of Engineering Department and demanded CBI Inquiry in case of renovation work carried out in Electricity Department for office and substation building as well as residential colonies where 1316 lacks rupees have been spent but work have not been completed even 30% which is the matter of high level inquiry.
