PGI Neurosurgeon Gets Young Asian Neurosurgeon Award

Chandigarh 19th September:- Dr. Navneet Singla, Assistant Professor, Department of Neurosurgery, PGIMER got the Young Asian Neurosurgeon Award and travel Fellowship for his presentations at 22nd annual meeting of the Japanese Congress for Brain Tumor Surgery, which was held in Kagoshima, Japan from 7th-9th, September, 2017. Around 600 neurosurgeons attended this conference from all around the world. This conference was about surgeries of different types of brain tumors, various approaches and surgical outcomes.

He presented two papers, one on Vestibular Schwannoma surgery and another on Intraoperative Frozen section of various brain tumours. Vestibular Schwannoma surgery paper was result of surgeries done under the Guidance of Professor S. K .Gupta, Head of the Department of Neurosurgery and presented By Dr. Navneet Singla. It showed very good preservation of Facial Nerve function even with giant (sized more than 5 cm) vestibular schwannomas. Paper on Frozen sections presented by Dr. Navneet Singla was done under Guidance of Dr. Sandeep Mohindra. This paper shows that an experienced surgeon can correctly tell the histology of brain tumours solely upon intra-operative impression.

He was one of the only two Indians who got this award and fellowship.
