Chandigarh Administration & Youth Innovative Society Celebrates ‘World Ozone Day’: organize Painting Competition

Chandigarh 15th September:- Department of Environment & Forests, Chandigarh Administration in collaboration with Environmental NGO – Youth Innovative Society celebrated 'World Ozone Day' on 15th September, 2017 by organizing a  Painting Competition on the theme of the day by  school students of various Schools i.e. Government Model High School, Sector-32  and St. Joseph  Sr.Sec. School, Sec.44 in the Conference Hall of Botanical Garden at Sarangpur. On this occasion, Santosh Kumar, IFS, Director Environment & CCF was the Chief Guest.

Chief Guest informed that this special day is held on September 16th to mark the day back in 1987 when the Montreal Protocol was signed. As a result, a number of special events such as talks and seminars are held in the Canadian city of Montreal on this day. The aim of this is mainly intended to spread awareness about the depletion of the Ozone Layer and search for solutions to preserve it. This year, the entire World is celebration its 30thAniversary.

After Painting Competition, Chief Guest distributed the Prizes to the winners in the Painting Competition i.e. First Awardee was Govt. School, Khuda Alisher, Second Awardee- Govt. Model Sr.Sec.School, Karsan and Third Awardee  - Govt. Girls Sr.Sec.School, Sector-20, Chandigarh.

The Chief Guest appreciated the efforts taken by various students in making very good paintings depicting various environmental issues affecting the ozone effects on environment and appreciated the efforts by YIS in making it successful. He also informed that in the last one week, many schools have organized similar functions to sensitize their students.

Among other officials who were present during the celebration were P.J.S.Dadhwal, Addl. Director Environment, Pradeep Gulia, RFO, Chandigarh and other officials of Environment and Forest Department. The function was attended by various College & School Principals, Teachers, Students, NSS Volunteers and residents of Chandigarh.
