Prof J.S. Guleria to Inaugurates New Academic Session of PGI

Chandigarh 04th January:- Prof J.S. Guleria, former Dean and HOD Medicine, AIIMS, New Delhi will inaugurate the New Academic Session of PGI on Saturday the 7th January, 2017 in Bhargava Auditorium of the Institute. He will speak on "CONDUCT OF A PHYSICIAN- PERSONAL EXPERIENCE''. Prof J S Guleria is Emeritus Professor of the  National Academy of Medical Sciences and received the fourth highest Indian civilian honour of the Padma Shri.

The Institute's new academic session begins on 7th January with nearly130 students in the process of joining postgraduate courses of major specialties i.e. about eighty MD/MS in  Anaesthesia, Medicine, Nuclear Medicine, Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Psychiatry, Orthopaedics, Radio-diagnosis, General Surgery, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Community Medicine, Dermatology, ENT, Pathology, Pharmacology, Psychiatry, Radiotherapy and Transfusion Medicine and fifty students of Ph.D, and  DM/M.ch of Cardiology, Clinical Pharmacology, Hepatology, Nephrology,  Cardiac Anaesthesia, Neuro Anaesthesia, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Neonatology, Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine, Paediatric Haemato-oncology, Paediatric Critical Care, Paediatric Clinical Immunopathology and Rheumatology, Neuroradiology, Haematopathology, Paediatric Gastroenterology, Psychiatry, Histopathology,  Neurosurgery, Plastic Surgery, Surgical Gastroenterology and Urology.

Since, its inception PGI has produced 4900 specialists, 2400 super specialists and a large number of postgraduates in basic and allied sciences. Majority of the alumni are occupying best positions in different Institutes of this country and abroad. PGI runs 16 MD Courses, 4 MS Courses, 24 DM Courses and 6 M.Ch. Courses besides Dental, Nursing and Medical Technology Courses. PGI is credited in starting some of the postdoctoral courses, for the first time in this country, which are now being emulated by other institutes.  To name a few these are DM in Endocrinology, Neonatology, Nephrology, Pulmonary Medicine, Hepatology, Clinical Pharmacology, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Addiction Psychiatry, Pediatric Critical Care, Pediatric Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology, Histopathology, Cardiac Anesthesia, Clinical Hematology ,Hematopathology, Pediatric Neurology , Neuro-anaesthesia and Pediatric Radiology.

The pin-up ceremony for the new entrants to PGI for the session July 2016 and January 2017 will be held during the function.
