Chandigarh 02nd May:- A teacher has a great role for overall development of students. A teacher gives shape to the future of a student. As such, teachers should encourage the students not only for studies but also for extracurricular activities and sports. This was stated by Deputy Commissioner D.S. Mangat while conducting surprise visit at Govt. Girls Senior Secondary School Sohana. During this SDM Lakhmeer Singh was also present.
During the visit Deputy Commissioner visited the class rooms and interacted with the students and asked about the extracurricular activities being carried out in school. During this he also visited the Computer Room, Indoor Stadium, and toilet facilities constructed in the school. During this Deputy Commissioner appreciated the students under the girl students of this school for their achievements under the guidance of District Education Officer Mewa Singh Sidhu. During this Deputy Commissioner interacted with school principle Usha Mahajan and inquired about the problems being faced by them. She explained that approximate 800 girl students of Sohana and nearby areas are studying in this school and they have done remarkable achievements not only in studies but also in the sports & cultural activities also.
During this District Education Officer Mewa Singh Sidhu said that during the last 3 years Rs. 50 lacs have been spent at school for various works carried out in cooperation with social organizations. Free Computer education, free cycles to girls of 11th & 12thstandards have been provided. Arrangement of Library, RO System, ROT Eduset Labs have been ensured. Besides studies, subjects like Singing, Stitching, Home science, Drawing & Painting, IT & Health Care have also been given priority. Deputy Commissioner directed the District Education Officer to make arrangements for basketball sports for girl students. He said that school administration will fully cooperate for the same.
