Chandigarh 28th March:- Jaswant Singh Rana was elected as president of the Chandigarh Press Club by defeating incumbent Balwinder Singh Jammu with a margin of seven votes.
Elections to six of the nine posts of the governing council were held in which 426 voters out of the 576 cast their votes, Returning Officer Sham Singh informed.
He said that three office-bearers won unopposed. They were Nalin Acharya as senior vice president, Sanjeev Mahajan as secretary and Dr. Joginder Singh as joint secretary (one).
For the post of secretary general, Barinder Singh Rawat defeated Sanjay Sharma by 69 votes. Ms. Archana Sethi defeated Ms. Ruby Singh for the women reserved seat (vice president - I) by a margin of 82 votes. For vice president II, Ramesh Handa won the seat by defeating Ishwar Dhyani by 88 votes. For treasurer Rakesh Gupta defeated Deepender Thakur with a margin of 85 votes. Vishal Monga got elected for the post of joint secretary (two). He defeated Harminder Singh Nagpal by 126 votes, the highest margin in the election.
Returning Officer Sham Singh thanked the voters for peaceful polling. The election to the Press Club, established in 1980, is held annually and has been conducting since 1984 without a miss
