Chandigarh 04th February:- National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, CVDs and Strokes NHM, U.T., Chandigarh organized an Exhibition cum Screening camp at GMSH-16, Chandigarh in collaboration with Radiotherapy department, PGI. This day was used as an opportunity for creating awareness about Cancer, its signs and symptoms, timely detection and its management. Thousands of peoples visited this Exhibition on Cancer Awareness at GMSH-16.
Home cum Health Secretary Anurag Agarwal, inaugurated the exhibition and he appreciated the effort and highlighted that such activities should be continued in future also so that awareness may be generated amongst masses and people will be sensitized for early signs and symptoms of cancer and for early treatment and management. Mobile Mammography and Colposcopy unit of PGI with facility for screening Breast and Cervical cancer conducted around 50 Mammography and 90 Colposcopy and Dexascans. Various IEC materials in form of Posters, Banners, Pamphlets, and Leaflets were displayed and distributed to public at the Exhibition. Experts from PGI provided free consultation regarding Cancer, significance of its early detection, treatment and further management and interacted actively with the citizens and answered to their various queries regarding Cancer. The facilities for screening test for Cervical Cancer i.e. PAP smears is also available free of cost at all health facilities including GMSH- 16 civil hospitals Manimajra, CH-22 and Poly Clinic- 45.
