Sri Guru Gobind Singh College Celebrates Founders Day

Chandigarh 29th January:- Sri Guru Gobind Singh College, Sector 26, Chandigarh celebrated the Founders Day of the College in the college campus. The event was marked to commemorate the birth anniversary of the great luminary, the saint soldier Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. The occasion is even more special as it also marks the 50th year of the establishment of the College.

SGGS College was established by the Sikh Educational Society (SES) in1966. The founding principle of the college was to provide modern academic, scientific and professional education to students while inculcating in them the cultural and moral values preached by the tenth Guru. The present event also includes an effort to connect the students to their religious and cultural roots.

 The function began on 27th January with 'Prakash Sri Akhand Path'. Inter-College competitions were held including poetry recitation, essay writing and 'Gurmat Samwaad'.  The second day of the event opened with 'Kavishari' staged by the students. A 'Dhaadi Darbar' by Bhai Tarsem Singh Moranwali mesmerized the congregation. The College team performed the martial art of 'Gatka'. The students also served 'langar' of tea and snacks. A tree plantation drive was also organised on the occasion. S. Bir Davinder Singh, former Dy Speaker of Punjab Vidhan Sabha, an alumnus of the College, planted a tree in the College Hostel.

The third day of the celebrations began with 'Bhog Sri Akhand Path'. The divine notes of Kirtan were aesthetically rendered by the Kirtani Jatha Bhai Tajinder Singh Ji, followed by Bhai Jarkarn Singh Ji Patiale Wale. Ragi Jatha Bhai Tarbalbir Singh Ji also recited melodious notes of 'Ilahi Bani'. Afterwards, 'Guru ka Langar' prepared by the students and the staff together was served to the congregation including visitors and students.

 The fuction was organised by the Gurmat Vichar Sabha of the College, under the guidance of Dr. Jagdeep Singh and Prof. Gurpreet Singh Pandher, with due support from Prof. Kuldip Singh, Principal of the College. S. Gurdev Singh (IAS Retd.), Presiden, SES  and S. Jasmer Singh Bala, Secretary, SES also attended the function.
