Mayor Unfurls the National Flag at MC Building

Chandigarh 26^th January:- The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has organized a colorful function to commemorate the Republic Day in Fire Station, Sector 17, here today. Arun Sood, Mayor of Chandigarh was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

While addressing a massive gathering on the occasion after unfurling the National Flag, Mayor said that this was a day of introspection for all of us to see if we have fulfilled the dreams of our great freedom fighters. He said that Chandigarh is a beautiful city and it is our prime duty to maintain its beauty forever. He said that being a Smart City, Chandigarh needs to be maintained its cleanliness, all basic amenities to the citizens and latest technology and infrastructure etc. He mentioned that throughout the year Swachh Bharat Mission and Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao will be his priority duties alongwith various developmental works of the Municipal Corporation.

He said that all the umbrella associations like Resident Welfare Associations, Vyapar Mandal, FOSWAC, Market Welfare Associations will be included in one platform to carry out the Swachh Bharat Mission and best possible world class infrastructural facilities and basic amenities will be provided to the citizens of Chandigarh.

Arun Sood, Mayor and B. Purushartha, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh have awarded Municipal Corporation officials with commendation certificates including Smt. Anshu Chandna, Junior Assistant, Gurbag Singh, Junior Assistant, Naveen Kumar, Fireman, Baldeep Singh Chaudhary, Driver, Harikesh, Driver, Rampal, Driver, Verghese Samuel, Fitter, Nirmal Singh, Fitter, Raghubir, Chowkidar, Gurpreet Singh, Chowkidar, Naresh, Safaikarmchari, Ilam Chand, Safaikarmchari, Vikram Safaikarmchari.

The Mayor and Commissioner also started the portal for online suggestion of citizens for MC Budget 2016-17 by clicking the mouse during the Republic Day function.

During the Republic Day Speech, Mayor listed various future projects. He said that this year special focus of the Municipal Corporation will be to improve the NMT (Non Motorized Traffic) and for that new Cycle Tracks will be constructed wherever missing and feasible in consultation with Department of Urban Planning, UT, Chandigarh and existing Cycle Tracks will be repair and recarpetted. New community centres will be constructed in sectors including Sector 43, village Kajheri, Sector 38 West, Sector 31, 34, 51, Hallomajra and Khuda Lohra, Sector 37, Sector 50, Sector 32, NAC Manimajra, Pipliwala Town, Manimajra, Sector 7, 9, 10, 24 & Sector 36 from which four new community centres in sector 37, 38 (West), Sector 43 and 50 have already been approved for construction.

He said that to make safe the connecting passages in Markets, special focus will be given for repair/renovation and re-construction work. From this year the Green Belts and Parks will be cleaned mechanically as there is large scale shredding of leaves and grass cutting. For that purpose 50 suction machines for speedy, cleaning of Parks and Green Belts will be provided, he added.

The Mayor said that public participation will be ensured to maintain each and every green parks all over the city. In addition to that Municipal Corporation will provide Tertiary Treated water supply to all the parks and green belts during this year. Apart from this pruning of trees becomes cumbersome and unsafe, for which two boom ladders exclusively will be provided for the Horticulture Wing and all the Street lights will be replaced with LED lights and new lights will be provided wherever required, he added.

While speaking about strengthening the public health facilities, he said that bringing 35 MGD raw water from Mohali Water Treatment Plant at Jandpur upto Water Works, Sec.39, Chandigarh alongwith treatment, Storage and distribution will be the priority job and will be completed within stipulated time frame.

He said that 40 New Toilet Blocks will be provided in Green Belts of the city to facilitate the daily morning & evening walkers.  Apart from this, 5 new toilets will also be constructed near PGI, Chandigarh for facilitating the public. Construction of additional Pump house alongwith installation of pumping machinery and UGR & other allied works at Water Works-II, Manimajra.

He further said that shifting of water supply lines coming in the encroached portion in Indira Colony Manimajra, shifting of sewer lines commissioning in the encroached portion in Indira Colony Manimajra, Procurement of 4 Sewer cleaning machine for Chandigarh and 10 movable toilet blocks will be purchased very soon, Providing irrigation network for Tertiary Treated water supply in left out area in various sector of Chandigarh, Replacement and shifting of water supply lines from backcourt yard houses in various Rehabilitation colonies i.e. Maloya, Ram darbar, Mauli Jagran, Sec 55 & 56, Chandigarh, he added.

On the part of sanitation, the Mayor said that regular Cleanliness Drives are being organized under the Swachh Bharat Mission in Sectors, Colonies and villages of Chandigarh. The Municipal Corporation is providing colour coded bins to ensure segregation at source and starting segregation of waste at the household level in four sectors 48, 49, 50 and 51. The work of installation of 1^st Biomethanation Plant to process the Hotel Waste, Vegetable Waste, mixed Waste i.e. Horticulture and mixed garbage etc. is going on in Industrial Area Ph-I and construction work of 2^nd Plant of same capacity will be started soon. To strengthen the Solid Waste transportation system, 11 Dumper placers and 100 garbage bins are being purchased and round 200 garbage bins are being repaired, he added.

He said that all developmental projects of MC including annual Budget will be processed after proper guidance and assistance of general public of Chandigarh, all political parties, Resident Welfare Associations and other umbrella associations for the welfare of citizens in Chandigarh.
