Chandigarh 11th December:- Rotary transcends all religion, respects every conviction, and unites people across borders without any discrimination which lends it the power to bring about positive change for a better world, said Rotary International President K.R. Ravindran, while addressing over 400 Rotarians in the jam-packed auditorium of Chandigarh Judicial Academy here today evening.
He called upon the working professionals and business houses to give back to the society and make a difference in the lives of people in their own community by joining hands with Rotary.
The big corporate who want to do good in the society have immense opportunity to partner with Rotary and get a global footprint to spread their message across and really contribute in bringing about the change through their corporate social responsibility projects.
Ravindran recognised the two Rotary Peace Scholars from the city, namely C.S.R.Reddy, IPS, Additional Director General of Police Punjab and Tribune's Associate Editor Dinesh Kumar for having continued to contribute to the society in their own rspective ways.
On this occasion, Simardeep Kaur, student of Bhavan Vidyalaya Chandigarh, received a plaque for winning the inter zonal declamation contest on the current year's Rotary theme, "Be a Gift to the World", in which many schools had participated and out of the 20 contestants she was adjudged the best.
Earlier in the morning, RI President K. R. Ravindran inaugurated an eLearning centre in Government Model School at Manimajra as a part of Rotary India's Literacy Mission comprising of digital learning module for class 8th students along with hardware costing about Rs.1.5 lakh. Eighteen government schools would be equipped with eLearning modules in Chandigarh and around at a cost of Rs.27 lakh, District Governor David Hilton informed.
R K. R. avindran and his wife Vanathy later visited the Elante Mall where nearly 1500 school students who are members of the Rotary's Interact Club, and Rotaractors congregated for the 'Keep India Polio Free' campaign.
The children from blind school sang the 'swachh bharat' theme song, while various students presented dance, street plays, and gidda on the occasion.
Noted Punjabi singer Harbhajan Mann also joined the rally to inspire the children along with many senior Rotarians including past Rotary International President Rajendra K. Saboo, past Rotary International Director Yash Pal Das, and others.
Ravindran said that protecting every child from polio in the world is Rotary's primary mission and every child can contribute by maintaining hygiene and sanitation around them.
DPS Chandigarh, Bhavan Vidyalaya, Guru Harkrishan Public School, Hilton School Dehradun, and Gurukul Global Manimajra were also recognised for raising funds for the polio eradication.
