Chandigarh 11th December:- Chandigarh Police has compiled the crime statistics for the current year till 30-11-2015 and has analysed the crime pattern in order to assess the efficacy of the police force in the prevention and detection of crime.
In IPC cases, the reporting of cases has gone up from 2937 to 3008, an increase of 2.41 %. This marginal increase can be attributed to enhance monitoring of public complaints through initiatives such as "Know Your Case ". During this period, the overall working out percentage has gone up from 78.61 % to 79.46 % a positive increase of 0.85 %. Within the IPC cases, the registration of heinous cases has gone down from 1083 to 972, a decrease of 10.24 %, while the working out percentage of heinous offences under IPC has increased from 55.03 % to 57.51 %. During the year, emphasis was laid on action against under Local and Special laws for curbing public nuisance and annoyance causing offences such as illegal sale of liquor, gambling, satta, immoral trafficking etc. In all 1696 cases were registered under local and special laws as against 1305 in the corresponding period, an increase of 29.96 %. Chandigarh Police has also continued its drive against drug peddlers in the city by registering 163 cases during the current year as against 131 in the corresponding period of last year, an increase of 24.42 %.
The number of motor vehicle thefts has gone down significantly with 559 cases reported upto 30-11-2015 against 735 cases in the corresponding period of 2014. Chandigarh Police also maintained its drive for arrest of Proclaimed Offenders (POs) and as many as 389 Proclaimed Offenders were arrested during the current year up to 30-11-2015.
Under preventive arrests in order to prevent flare-up of local issues, preventive action was initiated in 3184 cases as against 1564 in 2014 and 941 persons were bound down this year as compared to only 328 persons in the previous year.
The public Grievance Redressal System was constantly monitored at the highest level and 90 % of the 11789 complaints have been disposed off. During the period 1143 e-mails were received by the IGP of which 1126 have been disposed off.
During the year, Chandigarh Police also dealt with 3420 Law & Order arrangements including rallies/dharnas (247), religious programs (333), exam (402) and VVIP programs (384). In addition special security was provided to various protected persons during their visit/stay in the city including in category 'X' (273), 'Y' (119),'Z' (00) and 'Z+' (95).
While no police force can rest on its laurels, the year 2015 has been highly satisfactory for Chandigarh Police as crime in the city remained well under control due to preventive efforts of the police.
