23rd National Children Science Congress to Begin on 27th December at Chandigarh University

Chandigarh 26th December:-National Children Science Congress 2015 was aimed to infuse the spirit of Innovation in the field of Science & Technology by the way of an exercise to carry-out small research activities at micro-level or school level, said by Dr. B.P.Singh, Scientist 'G' and Head, National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC), Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India. Dr. B.P.,Singh was addressing a press conference here today at Chandigarh Press Club to announce the beginning of 23rd National Children Science Congress 2015 which will be hosted at the campus of Chandigarh University, Gharuan from December 27th 2015.

Ms. Ujjwla T. Tirkey, Scientist, DST & National Head, NCSC and Dr. R.S.Bawa, Vice-Chancellor, Chandigarh University was also present during the press conference. The theme selected for NCSC-2015 is "Understanding Weather and Climate" and the students would present their projects under various categories depicting the problems faced by World due to Climate Change or the possible solutions to the problem of Climate Change" said Dr. B.P.Singh.    

Dr. B.P.Singh further added that the 5-day Mega event would kick start with the colorful inauguration ceremony that includes Science Exhibition which would be presided over by Dr. Daljeet Singh Cheema, Minister for Education, Government of Punjab along with K.A.P Sinha (IAS), Secretary, Science & Technology, Government of Punjab. 1400 students from more than 2000 schools all-across India would be exhibiting their projects which would be open for general public also till 30th December 2015.

Ms. Ujjwla said that more than 300 Scientists and Researchers from Department of Science & Technology, GoI would also be participating during the NCSC-2015 at Chandigarh University that will provide a unique platform for the students who will be future scientists of India to deliberate on sensitive issues like Innovation and Research in the field of Science & Technology. She added that during the NCSC-2015, Department of Science & Technology would organize "Meet the Scientist" series of Expert Lectures that would be delivered by senior scientists all across India. She further said that the Scientists invited residents of City Beautiful, Chandigarh to participate in "Run for Climate Change" Marathon that would be organized on December 2015 at Sukhna Lake to create awareness among general public about the possible impact of Climate Change on Humanity. The valedictory function which includes Awards Ceremony for the winners would be held on the eve of New Year 31st December 2015 which would be presided over by Higher Education Minister, Punjab, Surjit Singh Rakhra.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. R.S.Bawa, Vice-Chancellor, Chandigarh University said that we are honored to host such a mega event at our campus where Innovative Ideas would be discussed and supported so that practical & scientific solutions to the Global problems can be worked upon. He added that University has made elaborate arrangements for the stay of students from 23 States who are visiting Punjab and an Education tour to holy city Aanadpur Sahib and visit of Virasat-e-Khalsa has also been arranged on 30th December.
