Chandigarh 26th News:- The three day 42nd National Conference of Association of Clinical Biochemists of India started at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Chandigarh today. The conference is being organized by the Department of Biochemistry under the leadership of Prof. Rajendra Prasad. The conference was inaugurated by Prof. Kaptan Singh Solanki, the Hon'ble Governor of Haryana.
Prof. Kaptan Singh Solanki said that Biochemistry constitutes an important segment of medical science and the health care system. Over the years, rapid developments have been witnessed in this field. He also said that conference and seminars play a vital role in updating knowledge of such advancements.
Prof Yogesh Chawla, Director, PGI presided over the function. Prof. Praveen Sharma, President of the Association of Clinical Biochemists of India delivered the presidential address. Prof. R.R. Sinha, General Secretary, ACBI present report on the working of the society. Prof. Rajendra Prasad the Organizing Secretary welcomed the distinguished guests. He said that during the three day conference three simultaneous sessions are being organized and young scientists are presenting their work with the help of posters. He said that the theme of the present conference is on latest advances in clinical biochemistry covering important aspects of molecular basis of various disease processes as well as applications of latest techniques and quality management of laboratory.
The conference started with the plenary lecture delivered by Prof. I.C. Verma of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi. He delivered a talk on "Next gen sequencing revolutionized molecular diagnostics and translational medicine". He described the use of new bio-technologies, including the applications of next gen sequencing in applied aspects of patient care in India. He also emphasised upon the use of genotype driven personalized therapies in cancer and other genetic disorders and genetic testing. Thereafter K.L. Gupta Memorial Oration was delivered by Dr. Kapil Mehta from Anderson Cancer Centre, Houston, USA, who spoke on "circumventing cancer drug resistance in the era of personalized medicine". Dr. Taranath Shetty Memorial Oration on "Emerging concepts in pathophysiology of type 2 diabetes was delivered by Dr. Anil Bhansali from PGI, Chandigarh. Today altogether nine sessions were held during the conference during which over fifty papers by leading international and national experts were presented. More than hundred posters were also presented by the young researchers. The topic covered were "Molecular basis of genetic disorders", metabolic syndrome, evidence based laboratory and emergency medicine, cancer biology, laboratory accreditation etc.
More than a thousand delegates from difference parts of the country and abroad also are participating in this three day National conference.
