Max Super Speciality Hospital organizes ‘Heart Cyclothon’

Chandigarh 27th Sept:- As many as 300 people took part in a 'heart cyclothon' at Sukhna Lake this morning. The cyclothon was organised by Max Super Speciality Hospital (MSSH), Mohali on the eve of World Heart Day. During occasion, Vijay Kumar Dev, Advisor to the Administrator (UT) along with Max senior Cardiologists and Cardiac Surgeons including Dr Virendar Sarwal, Dr Anurag Sharma, Dr Deepak Puri, Dr Amit Gupta rode cycles to promote physical activity and heart-healthy habits among people .

The cyclothon was in fact an interesting demonstration of the importance of physical activity for a strong heart. Besides other activities, Zumba dance performances, cardio fitness zone and fun filled games were also displayed to focus on healthy heart. The participants demonstrated a 'movement for movement' massage that was aimed to encourage people to increase their physical activity and to follow healthy lifestyle.

Speaking during occasion, Vijay Kumar Dev said that our today endeavour was to highlight this year World Heart Day that was dedicated on exposing how much our environments could impact and increase CVD risk factors.

Dr Virendar Sarwal, Director & Head, Cardio Thoracic & Vascular Surgery, MSSH said that by challenging people to cycle and walk, we aimed to encourage ongoing, regular physical activity, which could dramatically lower an individual's risk of cardiovascular disease.

Sandeep Dogra, VP & Zonal Head, Max Hospitals Punjab said that the environments in which we lived, would work and play a huge effect on our ability to make the right choices for our heart health. 

Talking about importance of dance in keeping heart healthy, Dr Sudheer Saxena, Director, Cardiology said that Zumba dance was a right choice as it would mix fun and cardio exercise together.
