Managements of all Private dental colleges of Punjab has requested to Punjab Govt. to fill their 100% seats in BDS courses or these colleges should be compensated financially. In their statement managements explained that all the 100% seats (50% Govt. & 50% management quota) are being filled by Baba Farid University of Health Sciences and their right to admit students in 50% management quota has been taken by University since last 8 years.
IN 2012, almost 400 seats remained vacant though there were more than 10000 aspirants for these seats. Similarly in 2013 about 200 seats remained vacant & in 2014 380 seats remained vacant in BDS course though there were 13500 aspirants for these seats. This year in PMET 2015 conducted in May 2015 almost 15600 students appeared for approximately 2000 seats in MBBS and BDS but till date when just 3 days are left to fill 1100 seats in BDS course (30thSeptember is the cutoff date for admitting students in MBBS/ BDS course), only 33% of these seats have been filled by the University through online counseling & 67% of the seats are still vacant though there are 6500 students who have qualified in PMET 2015. It is shocking that since last 5 years seats in BDS course in private dental colleges of Punjab remain vacant though there are many candidates and seats in private dental colleges in adjoining states of Himachal, Haryana, Rajasthan & NCR are 100% filled. Fees in the adjoining State are much higher than Punjab & more than 60% of the students are from Punjab.
