Chandigarh 23rd July: - Two day 8th IJ Dewan Memorial Educational Workshop on "Organs Talk: Time to take prevention" organised for school children by the Department of Anatomy, PGI, Chandigarh concluded today. Over 700 students from eight schools of Chandigarh, Mohali and Ambala got an opportunity to learn about the ill-effects of unhealthy life style like smoking, drinking alcohol, driving without helmet, consuming junk food, excessive use of cell phones and consequences of antibiotic abuse on human body organs through posters and demonstrations. Actual specimens of normal and diseased organs like cirrhotic liver, smoker's lungs, lungs affected by cancer and fatty heart were displayed at the workshop. According to Dr Daisy Sahni, Head, department of Anatomy, the main aim of this workshop was to educate the young children about benefits of healthy living to enable them to realise the futility of unhealthy lifestyle, which leads to an irreversible ordeal of diseases. Each and every participant was declared as the health ambassador. Doon international school, mohali and St. Joseph school, Chandigarh were so motivated by the programme that they have formed a club on the name of workshop so as to spread the message of the workshop to the larger masses.
