PGI to Host Workshop on “Brachytherapy of Gastrointestinal Cancers”

Chandigarh 03rd March:--The Department of Radiotherapy & Oncology, Regional Cancer Centre alongwith Indian Brachytherapy Society will be hosting a "Workshop on Brachytherapy of Gastrointestinal Cancers" at Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh on 7th -8th March, 2015. The distinguished radiation oncologists from all over the country and abroad have been invited to participate and interact with the delegates, which will be beneficial for the young radiation oncologists. The prominent faculty of the workshop from abroad includes .Prof. J.A.Polo Rubio from Ramon Y Cajal University Hospital, Madrid, Spain and Prof. R. Sur from McMaster University, Canada. This Workshop will be attended by over 200 delegates from India and abroad.

Prof R. Kapoor the Organizing Secretary of the Workshop apprised that brachytherapy is an established and   integral part of treatment of cancers. Current advances in imaging and dosimetric evaluation can be exploited to further advance the discipline of brachytherapy and use this unique treatment modality to benefit cancer patients. The technological advances of the present era allow us to use brachytherapy in an ever increasing number of indications including Gastrointestinal Cancers, which will be the focus of this workshop. We promise an excellent academic feast which will be supplemented by live demonstrations of gastrointestinal brachytherapy procedures for the first time in the region.
