LifeCell Teaches Pregnant Women Facts about Labour Pain Management

Chandigarh 21st February:- To clear different doubts and myth in pregnant womens Life Cell International along with city-based child birth educator and physiotherapist Dr Arvin Sethi has started the 'Safe Mom Safe Family' initiative.

Dr Arvin Sethi, explained that rising conflicts between new moms and mother-in-laws over whether to listen to the doctor or adopt traditional methods is negatively impacting the growth of the child. Woman who exercise have less discomfort during pregnancy. They have less cardiovascular and respiratory problems, and maximum flexibility and strength to fight labour pain. This leads to less labour pains and speedy recovery.

LifeCell Manager Mayanka said, that they had started this initiative of interactive sessions with parents-to-be just to sort out confusions. She added that in this session as many as 150 expecting mothers participated and learnt exercises to avoid Caesarean delivery. Dr Sethi added that breathing exercises in labour play a major role, which can reduce the labour pains from16 to 18 hours to just 4 to 5 hours. She cleared myths of the expecting mothers by briefing on various topics.

Breaking myths:-Intake of 'ghee' only increases the weight and leads to Caesarean delivery. Stair climbing and Indian toilets help strengthen the flexibility of legs. X-rays are harmful while ultrasound is just sound waves that are totally safe. Also, ripened papayas are good.

What to do after delivery:- Drink 3 litres of water daily i.e. 2 glasses every hour; one litre milk intake is mandatory. It is important to wear proper breast support with good fitting bra. Full body massage can be started immediately, feet movements and Perineal (kegals) exercises can be started immediately after delivery while abdominal exercises can be started after 42 days. Do not sit with cross-legged; this will help prevent stretch over stitches.

Healthy food:-

Have dry fruits; almonds, raisins or walnuts; intake of milk with banana or amla is healthy. For breakfast have one dry, roasted stuffed roti (do not fry the roti, but one can apply desi ghee or butter after it is cooked). Have curd or lassi, cornflakes, porridge or a bowl of fruit chat.

Avoid This:-

Fish, unpasteurized milk, uncooked or half-cooked meat or egg, alcohol, caffeine, Chinese salt and packed juice. Try to replace sugar with shakarr (rich in iron); avoid eating out.
