Organ Donor saves Lives of Five at PGI

Chandigarh 11th December:- In a rare and magnanimous gesture of organ donation, the family of Late Sh. Ashok Kumar gave consent to enable PGI save precious lives of needy patients, through successful transplantations.

A resident of Barnala Panjab,Late Sh. Ashok Kumar was admitted to PGI on 8th December 2014 in a critical condition at Emergency Neurosurgery Ward with diagnosis of Acoustic Schwanomma.  However, despite best of efforts by the team of experts, the patient could not be saved and was declared "brain dead".

 

The patient's younger sister and the family members gave their consent to donate the organs. After fulfilling all the necessary procedures under Transplant of Human Organs Act, the organs were harvested and immediately utilized for the helpless and needy patients resulting in saving precious lives.

 

Words fail to explain the courage and compassion shown by the family of Ashok Kumar as even after suffering the irreparable loss, the family volunteered to donate Liver, Pancreas, Kidneys and Corneas of Late Sh. Ashok Kumar. Five patients were saved because of this generous act of the family. The Institute acknowledges the spirit and greatness of the family of Late Sh. Ashok Kumar.
