PB,BUDGET 2014-15:PHD CHAMBER WELCOMES SKILL DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE OF PUNJAB GOVERNMENT

Chandigarh 16th July:- R S Sachdeva, Co-Chairman, Punjab Committee, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry welcomed the skill development initiatives of the Punjab Government. He also Indicated that the stress on the creation of Skill Development infrastructure in the Budget presented by Punjab Finance Minister, here today, would lead to furnishing of the requisite skilled manpower to the industry. He added that the upgradation of Technical Education department to Department of Technical Education and Skill Development would definitely lead to meeting up the skill development needs of the State. Chandigarh International Civil Air Terminal being functional by December, 2014 would surely better the connectivity and give the growth of the area a boost.

 However, describing poor infrastructure at industrial zones as a hindrance for growth, the industry has demanded more funds to be earmarked for the upkeep and maintenance of focal points and industrial areas,  R S Sachdeva  said, that there is an urgent need to maintain and upgrade industrial areas and focal points and the state government should address this issue, We request the government to review the iron and steel sector, which was put in negative list of industries in the industrial policy, so as to enable the sector attract new investments.

Dalip Sharma, Director, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry welcomed the proposal of setting up of a Multi Skill Development Center at Ludhiana with a training capacity upto 10,000 candidates annually, which would help the local youth to come into the employment fold. Dalip Sharma further said, that proposals to set up Footwear Development and Design Institute at Banur, IT City at Mohali, 1600 acre Educity, 1700 acres IT City, besides a Medicity and upgradation of 6 ITIs would enhance the skill sets of the youth in the State and make them employable.
