Chandigarh 23rd April:-- Drug abuse is not new but matters have been
getting worse in recent months as almost a whole generation of young
people is being lost to a menace that has literally shattered the
physical and mental health of Punjab's youth. As many as 67 percent of
rural households in Punjab had at least one drug addict in the family.
And the most drug addicts belong to the 16-to-35 age group, indicating
the high vulnerability of young people. Against this background
Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Punjab State Council organized
an awareness session on Drug De addiction for the students of
Government ITI Nawanshahr.
Karam Chand Principal ITI Nawanshahr said that there is great need to
create awareness among the youth about the devastating effects of
consuming drugs. Paramjit Singh Sachdeva, Co-Convener, CII CSR Panel,
CII Punjab State Council & Managing Director Sachdeva Stocks Pvt Ltd
briefed the students about the CSR activities CII is doing in the
state and urged the students to keep themselves away from the drugs.
Dr Ajay Bagga, Senior Medical Officer from Hosiharpur, explained in
length about the causes, ill effects and preventive measures about
drugs. He advised the students that they should always focus on their
studies and should not deviate themselves from their goals. Jaspal
Singh Gidda, Principal ITI Garhshankar, was also present at the
session. While interacting with the students Gidda shared his views
about drug addiction and female feticide. Apart from session on drug
deaddiction, a session on placements was conducted by Swaran Jeet
Singh, HR Manager, GNA Enterprises. Singh briefed the students about
how to get ready for placements and shared his views what do companies
look for while hiring candidates.
At the end of the session Karam Chand Principal ITI Nawanshahr and
Jaspal Singh Gidda, Principal ITI Garhshankar, advised the students to
wholeheartedly go out with their family members to cast their vote.
