DC Issues Directions To SSP for Checking of Hotels, Restaurants, Lodges and Guest Houses

Magistrate-cum-District Electoral Officer, has ordered the supporters,
relatives, outsiders of the candidates who are involved in election
campaigning, to stay away from the district premises after the end of
election campaigning on 28 April after 6:00pm onwards. The orders
issued above shall remain withhold for the elected members of Lok
Sabha & MLAs, however, campaigning in any means by anybody will be
prohibited. Tejinder Pal Singh Sidhu said that the orders are issued
in view of Preservation of Public Peace & Public Safety during
election as the presence of such person could influence the peace &
harmony in the district, which in turn will affect on election
procedure.
District Magistrate said that in accordance to the adherence of
directions of election commission, SSPs have been ordered to ensure
checking though SHOs to inspect the hotels, guest houses, restaurants,
community halls, lodges, for unauthorized stay of outsiders and also
ordered to make a list after verification of the outsiders. District
Electoral Officer said that all the alehouses & liquor shops falling
within the district jurisdiction shall remain closed from 28 April
6:00pm to 30 April 6:00pm. Besides this, the liquor shops/ Ahatas of
neighboring states such as Haryana, Himachal & U.T. Chandigarh,
falling within 3KM the district premises shall also remain closed. He
said that serving or distribution of hard drinks & liquor in personal
functions on or 48 hours preceding the Election Day, is also
prohibited. In view of successful & peaceful lok sabha elections,
District Magistrate using his powers under Code of Criminal Procedure
1973 (Act No. 2 of 1974) Section 144, has ordered for prohibition of
canvassing on 30 April by any party, candidate & their supporters,
within 100 meter radius of polling stations. He said that voting will
be done on 30 April from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm. After this, District
Electoral Officer reviewed the training being imparted to presiding
officers & alternative presiding officers about the EVM machines at
SDM office here. He directed the official to clear all their doubts &
questions about the working & functioning of EVMs so that they could
not face any problem.
