will be sent. This was stated by District Electoral Officer-cum-Deputy
Commissioner Tejinder Pal Singh Sidhu, while non-formal communication
with press regarding first round of randomization of EVMs in the
presence of representatives of political parties at District
Administrative Complex.
Tejinder Pal Singh Sidhu said that EVMs will be sent to the polling
booths after complete checking by Technical Teams formed by Chief
election Commission. He said that for 241 booths of Dera Bassi
Constituency, 265 EVMs will be sent & for 226 polling booths of Kharar
constituency 248 EVMs will be sent. Meanwhile in SAS Nagar
constituency for 221 polling booths 243 EVMs will be sent. Tejinder
Pal Singh Sidhu said that in a bid to prevent any tampering of EVMs
the election commission has decided to use the process of
randomization of the machines to avoid pre-programming in favor of any
particular candidate. He explained that EVM Randomization procedure is
a precautionary measure to ensure that nobody could know beforehand
about which constituency or polling station a specific EVM will be
sent or used. During Randomization the EVMs selected randomly through
a computerized process. Tejinder Pal Singh Sidhu said that BLOs at
booth level will also provide training for voting through dummy
machines so that the voter could not face any problem on Election Day.
While explaining about the security arrangements he said that
preparation on this front has been finalized as the polling stations
have also been categorized as normal, sensitive & hypersensitive.
Besides above requisite arrangements have been made to ensure fair &
transparent elections in the district.
