Chandigarh 24th February:-- An engineering student of Chandigarh Group of Colleges (CGC), Jhanjeri Jasmeen Kaur, has won first prize as PTU’s best player of Table Tennis (Women). The prize was given to her by Vice Chancellors of Baba Farid University & PTU during a special function organized by PTU for honouring outstanding sportspersons of the University.
Jasmeen’s caliber was noticed by the eminent judges of PTU’s inter college Table Tennis Tournaments where Jasmeen gave a brilliant performance & remained unbeaten throughout the tournaments. All the judges whole heartedly recommended her for the University’s Table Tennis Team. This PTU team with Jasmeen as a member was given a thorough training for about a month. After that the team took part in Inter University Table Tennis Tournament in which 67 teams from different Universities of India (North Zone) participated. In their opening match, PTU beat Bareilly University by 3-0. In quarter final PTU defeated Kumaon University, Uttarakhand by 3-1 and finally won a medal by beating Punjabi University, Patiala. Jasmeen of CGC, Jhanjeri became a proud member of PTU’s team which qualified for All India Championship. This is a remarkable achievement as this is first time in the history of PTU when its Table Tennis Women’s Team has brought this honour to the state of Punjab. Based on the consistently outstanding performance of Jasmeen, she has been given the prestigious prize of PTU’s best player in Table Tennis (Women).
Congratulating Jasmeen, S. Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, President, CGC said that all possible facilities will be provided to her so that her talent gets fully polished.
Dr. G.D. Bansal, Director General, CGC said that he has personally witnessed the performance of Jasmeen & she is an excellent player. Dr. Bansal is confident that one day she will represent India at International Level.
