STA Challaned/Impounded Issued Notices to 495 Vehicles:Rs. 14, 70,300/- recovered as compounding fee from these Challans

Chandigarh 05th August:-- To curb the tendency of plying unauthorized vehicles with incomplete documents, driving overloaded vehicles and make the city Pollution Free, State Transport  Authority, U.T., Chandigarh during the month of June & July 2013,  carried out intensive checking campaign of commercial vehicles.  More than 2000 vehicles were checked and 495 were challaned/impounded/issued notices. By compounding the above challans Rs. 14, 70,300/- (Rupees fourteen lakhs, seventy thousand three hundred only) were recovered as compounding fee. More checking will be done in next days. Secretary/STA Mahavir Kaushik, HCS had advised the people to keep the documents complete in their vehicles, i.e. R.C. Insurance, Driving License, Pollution under Control Certificate and permit and not to over load their vehicles while traveling so that they may not face unnecessary inconvenience. Auto Rickshaw and Taxi Operators are advised to install and keep the fare meter in working order otherwise high penalty will be charged as per Motor Vehicle Act. A move for checking Driving Schools and Pollution Check Centres have been started for good quality of driving and to make city beautiful a smoke free city. It has been seen that there are passengers three wheelers which are plying over capacity and with long curtains hanging outside the vehicles which is very dangerous though sometimes they are tied.  Parents are requested not to send their children in over loaded Auto Rickshaws. STA will start a special drive to challan/impound Diesel Auto Rickshaws which are coming from Punjab/Haryana which do not have valid documents and which have completed their life span of 15 years.  Public at large is advised not to use such auto rickshaws to avoid inconvenience
