Awareness and Self-Regulation Alone Can Curb Fake News: Experts

Chandigarh Dec.31, 2020:- Chandigarh Chapter of Public Relations Council of India (PRCI) organized a webinar on "Communication for a Better World: Fake News and its Antidote", which saw Delhi based communication professional Subir Moitra, Lead, Communication and Strategic Alliance, Think through Consulting, senior journalist and Resident Editor of Indian Express Manraj Grewal Sharma, and ex-IAS, author, motivational speaker Vivek Atray, who is also the Chairman of the PRCI Chandigarh Chapter. 

Organisations have realized the significance of effective communication during pandemic and especially with their employees which had hitherto been a neglected area, Subir Moitra said. 

Communication professionals are training the top managements in working with media, sharing information which is factual and allaying the staff's fears with authentic and timely news, he added. 

Manraj Grewal Sharma, Resident Editor, The Indian Express, said that credibility of all type of media is at stake and unless and until we go back to the basics of journalism, media would lose its trust with the viewers and readers. 

More than being first with the new, journalists has to be accurate, she affirmed and commenting on the mushrooming of youtube channels and other social media news networks, the fake news is destroying the social fabric.  

However all panelists supported self-regulation and need to train the people with media training to help them sift the fake from the real.  

Vivek Atray underlined the need for more and more mature leadership in every sphere which is sensible, sensitive and emotionally intelligent to communicate with the people in more humane way, for which there is a need to upgrade their skills. 

M B Jayaram, chief mentor and chairman emeritus of PRCI, said that with its 36 chapters in the country and Young Communicators Clubs in various universities and colleges, this national professional body was engaged in helping organizations to build ethical and credible businesses in the country. 

Senior National Vice President of PRCI and PR consultant CJ Singh moderated the session and hoped that in the year ahead, positive and ethical communication practices would help create a better world for the humanity. 

The session was attended by Zonal Head for North Renuka Salwan, Col DS Cheema and many other senior PR professionals.

40 Docs Attend CME on Psychiatrist Role in Pandemic

Chandigarh Dec.31, 2020:- As many as 40 doctors attended a CME on 'Role of psychiatrist in Covid pandemic' at Faith Hospital here on Thursday. The CME was organized in association of  National Integrated Medical Association (NIMA), Chandigarh.

Addressing CME, Dr. Damanjit Kaur, senior psychiatrist said that Covid pandemic has led to depression, anxiety and increased use of drugs like alcohol, tobacco etc. among people. The people are feeling hopeless and helpless and ultimately depressed.

She said that the role of psychiatrist has gained a lot of importance amidst pandemic especially among school going age groups as they are going through tough times because of online schooling.

Students don't have physical integration with people, especially their peers. Due to internet exposure children are getting trapped into cyber bullying, cybercrime etc. Screens time has increased which has affected the mental and physical health of the students. Nobody can have an actual School-like infrastructure at home which affects a lot in understanding concepts instead of mugging them up, she maintained.

She said, according to the data, women are about twice as likely as men to develop major depression. A recent study found that the proportion of women attending psychiatric emergencies in Covid induced lockdown has increased due to personal issues and workload. There are also reports of domestic violence increase between couples and increased workload on women, she remarked.

Among others, Dr. RP Gaba a Dhanwantry awardee and patron of NIMA , Dr GD Mehta,  Dr Meenu Gandhi and Dr Rajesh Tayal , the president, general secretary and treasurer of NIMA respectively along with Dr Amit Bansal founder director of Faith Hospital were also presented during occasion.

During the occasion, the 2-min silence was observed to honour the Covid warriors who lost their lives saving the society at large.

पानी के 3 गुना बिल बढ़ाए जाने पर शिवसेना ने किया फैदा में विरोध प्रदर्शन

Chandigarh Dec. 30, 2020:-  नगर निगम चंडीगढ़ द्वारा पानी के बिलों में 3 गुणा बढ़ोतरी को लेकर शिवसेना चंडीगढ़ प्रमुख परमजीत राजपूत के दिशा निर्देश पर फैदा गांव में बुधवार को वार्ड प्रमुख अंजार अली की अध्यक्षता में विरोध प्रदर्शन किया गया ।

जारी एक बयान में अंजार अली ने कहा कि फैदा में रह रहे लोग अपनी अंधेरे में रहने के लिए मजबूर है। पहले ही यहां बिजली पानी ओर टूटी गलियों में रहने के लिए मजबूर है वही अब प्रशासन ने पानी के बिलों में इजाफा करके गरीब के पेट पर लात मारी है। उन्होंने कहा कि कोरोना जैसी महामारी में पहले ही बेरोजगार हो चुके मजदूरों पर पानी के बिलों में बढ़ोतरी करना किसी अत्याचार से कम नहीं है।

इस मौके पर चंडीगढ़ इकाई महासचिव मोहित शर्मा ने प्रशासन पर भडक़ते हुए कहा कि भारत की संस्कृति में पानी पिलाना पुण्य का काम माना जाता है पर यह फैसला ले कर प्रशासन ने यह सिद्ध कर दिया कि सरकार को सिर्फ पैसो से मतलब है । इसके लिए सरकार कुछ भी कर सकती है।

मोहित शर्मा ने कहा कि जिस दिन प्रशासन ने पानी के बिलों मैं इजाफा का तुगलकी फरमान दिया था उसके कुछ दिन के अंदर ही शिवसेना ने निगम के दफ्तर के बहार भी प्रदर्शन किया था पर निगम के कानों पर जु तक नही रेंगी। इसके साथ मोहित शर्मा ने कहा कि अगर निगम यह फैसला वापिस नही लेती तो अब शिवसेना बहुत जल्द निगम का घेराव करने के लिए मजबूर होगी ।

मोहित ने कहा कि गांव फैदा के लोगो के साथ प्रशासन सौतेला व्यवहार करना बंद करे। सरकार द्वारा दावे तो बहुत किये जाते है कि चंडीगढ़ स्मार्ट सिटी है पर हकीकत इससे बहुत परे है। फैदा गांव में न तो साफ सुथरी गलिया है और न ही 24 घण्टे पानी । शिवसेना सरकार से अपील करती है कि यहा रह रहे लोगों की तरफ थोड़ा ध्यान दिया जाए। टूटी गलिया और बिना सीवरेज रहने को मजबूर लोगो ने प्रशासन के खिलाफ जमकर नारे बाजे करते हुए अपनी आवाज़ बुलंद की।

इस मौके पर चंडीगढ़ संगठन मंत्री मनोज शुक्ला, सचिव एम.पी. चौहान, कामगार सेना उप अध्यक्ष निक्कू खान, सहित भारी संख्या में गांव फैदा के लोगों ने भाग लेकर प्रशासन के खिलाफ अपना विरोध दर्ज करवाया।
