Chandigarh, August 12, 2025:-Senior BJP leader and President of the Udyog Vyapar Mandal Chandigarh, Kailash Chand Jain, reacting to the clarification given by the Central Government in the Lok Sabha that "Sectors 1 to 30 of Chandigarh do not fall under the heritage category, no building or area in Chandigarh has been declared a monument of national importance, and Chandigarh as a whole does not have heritage status", has urged the Chandigarh Administration to take immediate steps to provide relief to the public.
He stated that now that the Central Government has made it clear there are no statutory heritage restrictions applicable to the entire city, the Administration should promptly open share-wise property registry. This will provide major relief to thousands of families, traders, and investors who have been facing difficulties for years due to the inability to legally register their properties. He particularly emphasised that at the very least, the ban should be lifted immediately for the southern sectors in the Second Phase (from Sector 30 onwards).
He further demanded that an one-time scheme be introduced to regularise old building violations, so that unnecessary legal disputes can be resolved, people can live peacefully in their homes, and shopkeepers can run their businesses without hindrance.
Kailash Chand Jain also stated that when there is no statutory heritage status, it is the responsibility of the Administration to remove unnecessary restrictions in the interest of development and public welfare. Now is the time to boost real estate and business in Chandigarh, and citizens and traders should be given justice and convenience. The Administration must act quickly in this regard.
