Chandigarh, August 12, 2025:-The Chandigarh Pradesh Congress Committee today strongly reiterated its demand for the immediate restoration of share-wise registration of residential properties in Chandigarh. The demand comes in the wake of a recent reply by a Union Minister to a question raised by Chandigarh MP Manish Tewari, in which it has once again been categorically clarified that Chandigarh does not fall under the purview of a heritage city, and only a limited number of buildings in the city have heritage status.
Speaking on the issue, H.S. Lucky, President of the Chandigarh Pradesh Congress Committee, urged UT Administrator Shri Gulab Chand Kataria and the Chandigarh Administration to urgently review and withdraw the arbitrary orders banning share-wise registration.
H S Lucky expressed deep concern over the plight of ordinary citizens, stated that a large number of people who invested their hard-earned savings into property are now stuck because of this ill-conceived decision. At one point, banks were funding these transactions, but after the Administration's ban, even that avenue has closed. People are unable to sell their shares or raise funds against their property. Those suffering from serious ailments, facing urgent educational expenses, or arranging for marriages are being pushed into financial distress.
He further asserted that Chandigarh cannot be reduced to a city for the privileged few while ordinary residents are left to suffer. The Congress leader slammed the BJP's complete silence on the matter, saying, it seems the ruling party is content to just watch people suffer instead of standing up for their rights. This is not governance; this is abandonment of public interest.
Lucky proposed that, as a first step, the Administration should allow share-wise registration at least in sectors above 30, which would immediately provide relief to thousands of residents.
The Chandigarh Congress has vowed to continue raising this demand until the Administration reverses its decision and restores the rights of the people to register their property shares without unnecessary hurdles.
