Chandigarh, August 14, 2025:-The Chandigarh Pradesh Congress Committee today staged a candlelight march at Sector 42, Chandigarh, today, as part of the Congress party's nationwide agitational program to expose rampant electoral malpractices and vote chori by the BJP and the Election Commission of India (ECI) to steal elections for the BJP.
The march saw hundreds of Congress activists marching on the city roads carrying the tricolours, candles, and placards. They were enthusiastically raising slogans "Vote Chor Gaddi Chhod" as they marched.
The objective of the protest was to send a strong message to the Election Commission to not subvert and destroy democracy in the country. After Rahul Gandhi, the leader of opposition, made startling revelations on the massive frauds in the voter lists. the credibility of the Modi government has nosedived. Chandigarh Congress demanded resignation of the Modi government as well as state governments of Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra, which face the serious allegation of vote theft during the elections.
The march was led by Manish Tewari, Member of Parliament from Chandigarh, and H.S. Lucky, President of the Chandigarh Pradesh Congress Committee. It was organised by Jasbir Singh Bunty, District Congress Committee President, Urban 2, and Senior Deputy Mayor of Chandigarh.
Speaking at the protest, Manish Tewari, MP, Chandigarh, said that the revelations made by Rahul Gandhi have shaken public faith in the Election Commission. When the body tasked with conducting fair elections and safeguarding democracy is seen sitting in the lap of the BJP, it becomes the duty of every citizen to stand up for protecting our democracy. He declared that the Congress party will not rest until transparency and professional integrity is ensured in the working of Election Commission, and the truth about Vote manipulation in the elections held in 2024 is laid bare.
H.S. Lucky, President, Chandigarh Pradesh Congress Committee, said that the Election Commission is the guardian of our democratic process. If it fails in its role, democracy itself will be finished. He said that Chandigarh Congress demands transparency, honesty, and accountability from the Election Commission. He further said that the people of India deserve a free, fair, and impartial electoral process—and we will fight to protect that right.
The Chandigarh Congress emphasised that this march is only the beginning of a larger struggle to safeguard democracy in the country. The party reiterated its commitment to uphold constitutional values, protect electoral integrity, and stand against any attempt to manipulate the will of the people.
In the meantime, Chandigarh Congress has welcomed the directions issued to the Election Commission by the Apex Court, today during hearing of multiple petitions challenging the Special Intensive Revision of Bihar electoral rolls. Terming it a defeat for the Election Commission, Rajiv Sharma, Chief spokesperson of Chandigarh Congress, stated that the clear directions to publish provisional draft rolls of registered voters and names of 65 deleted voters along with the reasons of removal of their names from the draft list, in next 48 hours is a step in the right directions. He also welcomed the interim order of the Supreme Court to consider the Aadahar card as an acceptable document for inclusion in the voter list in respect of 65 lakh deleted voters.
