In order to celebrate 50 Golden years of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh and cherish various works written by Indian authors, the College library organised the second session of the Storytelling Club, LITERARY BIRDS- The Flight of Fantasy. The session was dedicated to the story of Yashpal (यशपाल), titled "Karva ka Vrat" (करवा का व्रत) which was read by Dr Aradhana from the Department of Hindi. More than 50 students attended the session in the College Library. The story is about a newly married couple Lajwanti and Kanhaiya. Before their marriage, the husband is guided to keep his wife in control. Keeping this in mind, Lajwanti is always mistreated and objectified by her husband. On Karva Chauth, Lajwanti decides that she will not fast for her husband. On learning that his wife is not fasting for him, Kanhaiya was devastated and his behaviour changed completely. He realised that his wife, too, was a human being who needed love and respect. Therefore, the courage to stand up for herself changed Lajwanti's life. This message is the need of the hour: Stand up for yourself, never give anyone permission to abuse you.
Principal, Dr Jatinder Kaur, appreciated the initiative of the Library Committee to promote reading culture among the students.
