Mayor Handed Over 20000 Colouring Books ‘Swacchta Ke Rang’ to Education Department

Chandigarh Jan.21, 2022:- City Mayor Sarbjit Kaur handed over 20000 colouring books "Swachhata ke Rang" to the Education Department, UT, Chandigarh.

The colouring books have been handed over by the Mayor to Sarpreet Singh Gill, Secretary, Education, UT, Chandigarh in the presence of Anindita Mitra, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, District Education Officer, and other officers of the Education Department in a simple programme held at Govt. Girls Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 18, Chandigarh.

While speaking on the occasion, the Mayor said that the Municipal Corporation has introduced this colouring book for kids to imbibe Swachhata as a way of life. She said that now, children will learn good practices on keeping the city clean; through this novel colouring book 'Swachhata Ke Rang.' It is perhaps, for the first time in the country, that Swacchta has been made part of the school curriculum.

S.S. Gill, Secretary, Education, Chandigarh said that the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has done an appreciable job and ensured all possible efforts to make the city beautiful, cleaner and greener. He said that the education department has chalked out a policy to introduce this book in the school syllabus to engage children in the Swachh Bharat Mission in a different way. He said that participation of every segment of society is necessary to make the cleanliness mission a success and releasing colouring books are efforts to engage youth and children towards the mission.

Anindita Mitra, Commissioner, MCC said that in a bid to create awareness about 'Mission Swachh Chandigarh' among children, the MCC has introduced this colouring book on cleanliness, which was launched by Dharm Pal, Adviser to the Administrator, UT, Chandigarh recently. She said that the 'Swachhta Ke Rang' book depicts cartoons with a message pertaining to solid waste management and general cleanliness alongwith segregation of waste at source.

The Commissioner said that the youth and students are one of the biggest change agents for any social transformation and the colouring book would aim to engage with them in an innovative manner and spread the message of cleanliness. The colouring book is meant to inspire children to take steps and create a long-lasting impact on the cleanliness of their homes, schools, neighbourhoods and eventually their City. He said that this initiative will push the Mission Swachh Chandigarh one step further towards making Swachh Bharat a 'janandolan'. 

The description of cartoons has been designed to educate the school kids about every aspect of Swachh Bharat Mission including attractive taglines i.e. 'Do your Bit, do not Spit', 'Make your planet fantastic, stop the use of plastic', 'Live life cleaner, make earth greener', 'Don't be mean, keep your city clean', 'If you want the roads to glitter, do not litter', 'Do not urinate on the wall, use the washroom stall', 'Water a priceless treasure, save it with pleasure', 'There is no pride in defecating outside', 'For a city up to date, Separate the Waste', 'Paper, Plastic & Cardboard are dry waste', 'Vegetable peels, used tea, fruits & food that is left is wet' and 'Batteries, paint and glass; all are a hazard' etc.
