Chandigarh Nov.11, 2021:- The Department of Environment, Chandigarh Administration in association with the FOSWAC (Federation of Sector Welfare Associations of Chandigarh) launched a unique 'Ms. Green Chandigarh'- a month long campaign today at Hotel Metro, Sector-35 Chandigarh to recognize the women for their various green initiatives. Debendra Dalai, IFS, CCF-cum-Director, Department of Environment, UT Chandigarh graced the occasion as Chief Guest
In his address Debendra Dalai said that being environmentally conscious about making everyday choices will-quite literally -determine our success or failure as a species.
We can be more conscious about reducing pollution, protecting wildlife, conserving natural resources and taking other actions that can help slow the rate of climate change. In his remarks, he said we all can make our own contribution to make a difference. He further stated that ourgreen initiatives can make Chandigarh as the Green Capital of the country.
The women RWA (Resident Welfare Association members) of over 70 RWA's associated with FOSWAC participated in the endeavor. Participating in the programme Mrs. Charanjit Kaur of Dev Samaj College of Education gave a presentation on segregation, composting of household waste, the need to reduce the amount of trash we create, and to reuse or repurpose consumer goods rather than throwing them away. She said that we in Chandigarh produce a lot of waste and the dumping site at Dadumajra is a stark example in front of us.
Bhupinder Singh from CREST gave a presentation on easy installation of efficient and sustainable rooftop solar solutions for homeowners. Wherein not only are their power bills reduced but people are earning from the revenue generated from solar plants.
Baljinder Singh Bittoo, Chairman, FOSWAC said that the selection criteria for Ms. Green Chandigarh will be based upon ten important points, like women with homes doing segregation of waste, composting, energy efficiency with star rating home appliances, kitchen gardening, swachata/cleanliness at home, solar systems installation, no single use plastics, further no leaky taps, pipes at home, waste water recycling, use of bicycles for small distances and those who are growing fruits, vegetables etc. on rooftops will also be honored.
In days to come FOSWAC in collaboration with Yuvsatta-NGO and Dev Samaj College of Education will be seeking nominations from interested women for 'Ms. Green Chandigarh' awards and winners will be felicitated first in three Zonal Contests of Sector 1-20, Sector 21-40, Sector 41-63 and later a state level grand finale will be organized to facilitate and recognize the most environment friendly women of Chandigarh.
