MCM's Online 'Econoverse 2021' a Huge Success

Chandigarh July 06, 2021:- The Postgraduate Department of Economics, Mehr Chand Mahajan College for Women organised its annual fest 'Econoverse-2021'. Given the present challenging times, the fest was organised online with the aim of encouraging budding economists and providing them a real-time environment to test their knowledge of Economics. The occasion was graced by Prof. Suman Makkar , Department of Economics, Panjab University as the Chief Guest and Prof. Pardeep S Chauhan, Department of Economics, Kurukshetra University as the Guest of Honour. Principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava inaugurated the fest and congratulated the Economics Department for keeping this annual tradition alive even during such times when offline events are not possible. She added that innovation and knowledge hold the key to the future and Econoverse assumes immense significance in light of the fact that it is the right platform for promoting innovation and knowledge.

Prof. Suman Makkar expressed appreciation for the novel initiative of the department to engage the students with concepts of Economics in an interesting manner. Igniting the passion in the students to achieve greater heights in life, Prof. Makkar motivated them to keep learning and believing in one's capabilities for success in life. The fest consisted of various innovative and engrossing events including The Mind Fizz, Stakes and Staggers, Caption Contest, Biz Tycoons, Economic Antakshari, and Puzzle and Scams that kept the audience glued to their screens throughout the fest. The fest witnessed overwhelming response as over 2800 people viewed it online, making it a huge success.

In the valedictory address, Prof. Pradeep S Chauhan praised the college for its excellence in the field of women education and stated that in such challenging times, events like Econoverse are imperative to boost up the students' confidence and keep them engaged. He inspired the budding economists to cultivate the ability to think out of the box and find novel solutions for problems like COVID-19 that hamper economic growth.
