Teachers Day: Education Ministers Honours 40 Teachers With State Awards

Chandigarh 05th September:- The Education Minister, Punjab, Mrs. Aruna Chaudhary today honored 40 teachers with the 'State Awards' on the eve of 'Teachers Day'. In the award function held at the auditorium of Punjab School Education Board (PSEB), the Education Minister also conferred commendation certificates on 5 teachers besides honoring National award winning 9 teachers of 2016 and heads of 39 schools winning Swachh Vidyalaya Puraskar. The state award winning 40 teachers were given Rs. 25000 prize money, a shawl and a medal. These teachers would also get one year extension in service. The other teachers and school heads were awarded certificates.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Aruna Chaudhary congratulated the entire teaching community especially the State as well as National award winners on the behalf of the Chief Minister, Captain Amarinder Singh on the occasion of teacher's day.

Remembering the second President of the country Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan on the occasion, the minister said that Dr. Radhakrishnan was a great philosopher and a brilliant teacher who had deep respect for teachers as well as his students. She exhorted all to take inspiration from the life of Dr. Radhakrishnan. Lauding the teaching community, the minister said that the contribution of a teacher towards the society cannot be forgotten because a teacher renders yeoman's service in building a vibrant and healthy society. The minister further added that the Punjab Government is committed to implement the teacher friendly decisions and the department is formulating plans to give maximum facilities to the teachers.

The minister also divulged that while many historical decisions have been taken, an online portal concerning leave to be availed by the teachers would be started soon which would prove helpful to the teachers in seeking permission for leave while sitting at home itself. The minister while congratulating the award winning teachers encouraged those unsuccessful to work even harder for next year.

Earlier, the Secretary, Education Department, Krishan Kumar in his address listed many game changing steps promulgated by the department under the guidance of the Education Minister. He said that a decision has been arrived at to settle ACP cases of the teachers at the DDO level and apart from this the letter pertaining to clearance of probation period would now be issued at the lower level. A decision has been taken to conduct Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) twice a year to meet the shortfall in the recruitment of teachers. He also said that a more transparent mechanism would be evolved very soon regarding state awards on teachers day following which no teacher would need to apply personally for the award.

In the beginning of the function, the Education Minister initiated the proceedings by lighting a lamp. The DPI (Secondary Education) Mr. Paramjit Singh welcomed the chief guest, other dignitaries and the teachers whereas the Director General School Education Prashant Kumar Goyal thanked the gathering. On the occasion, head mistress Rupinder Kaur Grewal conducted the proceedings of the stage in a very efficient manner. She was also honoured specially by the Education Minister.

On the occasion, a girl student presented 'Jugni' while the students of the Government Senior Secondary School Machhli Kalan presented 'Qawwali' in a soulful manner. The girl students of the Government Senior Secondary School Sahauran performed shabad gayan and rendered National Anthem beautifully in the end. These very girl students welcomed the guests and the awardee teachers with the melodious tunes of the band and the scouts and guides students of the same school presented Guard of Honour to the dignitaries.

Among others present on the occasion also included Joint Secretary , Education Department, Tejinder Pal Singh Sandhu, DPI (Elementary Education) Inderjit Singh, Director SCERT Sukhdev Singh Kahlon, Assistant Director Dr. Gurjit Singh and all the officers stationed at the headquarters of the department.
