Chandigarh 24th August:- Encouraged by the success of community connect programme, 'Be The Change, Be An Organ Donor', Regional Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization (ROTTO) PGIMER continued its organ donation awareness drive and organized two orientation cum counseling sessions one each at Sri Guru Gobind Singh College, Sector 26 and Shivalik Enclave Market, NAC Manimajra, concluding with 55 people volunteering to register as organ donors.
The student engagement session organized in collaboration with an NGO Nav Yuvak Umang Foundation at Sri Guru Gobind Singh College, Sector 26 witnessed a positive response with over 100 NSS students participating and 22 pledging for organ donation thereby, showcasing their voluntary spirit. Expressing his happiness at the positive turnout at the session, Dharamvir Rana, President, Nav Yuvak Foundation, said that there could not have been a better way to teach the spirit of selfless service amongst the students. Mrs Jyoti Lamba, Principal, SGGS College, reiterated the sentiment and said, "Organ Donation is truly in sync with NSS motto, "Not Me, But You,"
The community connect camp held in association with Shivalik Enclave Market Association at NAC market premises alongside the blood donation camp was also successful in motivating 33 volunteers to register as organ donors. Detailing about the intent behind organizing the camp, Ashish Duggal, General Secretary, Shivalik Enclave Market Association, shared that the aim was to promote a humanitarian spirit and being instrumental in saving someone's life, through this camp.
The team comprising Nilakshi, Simmi Sumbria and Sanobar from ROTTO PGIMER counseled people about the noble cause of organ donation and responded to the queries posed by the participants pertaining to prevalent myths and misconceptions. Dr. Suchet Sachdeva, Asstt. Professor, Deptt. of Transfusion Medicine, PGIMER emphasized on the importance of safe blood during his deliberation on voluntary blood donation and motivated participants to save precious lives by donating blood regularly.
Endorsing on the need of public education and awareness about the cause of Organ Donation, Dr. Vipin Koushal, Nodal Officer, ROTTO PGIMER asserted that any community connect opportunity provides a good platform to reach out and make people sensitize about the cause. "It is optimistic to see NGOs, institutions and enterprises coming forward and evincing a keen interest to collaborate with ROTTO to promote the cause. Dr. Vipin Koushal added that the cause is definitely gaining traction. Community slowly, gradually showcasing engagement for the cause is a good beginning; however, there is a long way to go.
