Chandigarh 03rd August:- Chandigarh - the city beautiful, will host WikiConference India from 5th to 7th August, 2016 to raise awareness about Wikimedia projects, share experiences and best practices followed in the online community for the spread of free knowledge. More than 250 Wikimedians from 20 language communities from all over the Indian subcontinent are going to attend the Conference. Katherine Maher, Executive Director of Wikimedia Foundation, USA will be the chief guest.
The Chairman, Satnam Singh Sandhu and President, Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal of Chandigarh Group of Colleges have graciously agreed to host the event and have provided staff and students' assistance in managing the logistics for the conference. The conference will provide an opportunity for the students to gain exposure to international free knowledge movement. There will be training workshops, Hackathon, edit-a-thons and keynote speeches. The Wikimedia Community invites the students, researchers and faculty members from diverse fields to join the event in Chandigarh and support the cause. On this occasion Wikimedians from all over the world have written almost 2000 articles about Punjab region in 10 different languages.
