PGI Doctors Holds Key Workshop for Punjab's Gynaecologists

Chandigarh 14^th June:-  A Capacity Building Workshop for  Gynecologists working in various Government Hospitals of Punjab was held here at the State Institute of Health & Family Welfare, Phase-VI, S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali). Sessions were held by Senior Gynecologists from PGIMER, Chandigarh on the Gynecological topics like Maternal Near-Miss Mortality, Postpartum and Ante partum Hemorrhage, Pre-eclampsia and eclampsia, antenatal care and management of anemia, cervical cancer screening, postmenopausal Health (Postmenopausal bleeding, bone health, HRT).

Vini Mahajan, Principal Secretary Health & Family Welfare, Punjab inaugurated the workshop and Dr. Vanita Suri Head, Department of Obst & Gynecology, PGI was the special guest. Hussan Lal, MD-PHSC & NHM, Punjab, Dr. HS Bali, Director Health Services, Punjab, Dr. Usha Bansal, Director Family Welfare, Punjab and Dr. Manjit Kaur Mohi, Director Research & Medical Education, Punjab were among the senior officers who addressed the 150 odd participating Gynecologists.

Speaking on the occasion Vini Mahajan exhorted the gynecologist working in the Punjab State to extract full benefit of the workshop organized under the expertise of PGIMER, Chandigarh. She expressed satisfaction over the performance of Gynecologists working in the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Punjab and lauded their hard work and dedication due to which Punjab has been able to achieve a lot of success in terms of improvement in the crucial Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) and Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) indicators. She emphasized that the medical profession is very noble one, and the Gynecologists have contributed to a great extent for bringing-in new lives through safe deliveries. Principal Secretary said that due to the hard work of these doctors the State has witnessed a manifold increase in the number of institutional deliveries in govt. health institutions, adding that the govt. has already extended the facility of cashless deliveries & free medicine in all govt hospitals of Punjab.  

Hussan Lal stated that Government is constantly making efforts to provide new and state of the art infrastructure and equipment in the hospitals along with adequate manpower. He added that owing to the effective implementation of National Health Mission project by State all prime health indicators have improved a lot during the past 10 years.

Dr. Vanita Suri appreciated the efforts made by Punjab Government for organizing the joint workshop for capacity building of Gynecologists. Assuring full support at the level of PGI, Chandigarh, she said such joint Continuous Medical Education (CME) Programmes are a welcome step and she is sure that such measures would prove very fruitful in further enhancing the skills and expertise of medical specialists. She appreciated the hard work being put-in by the Gynecologists of Punjab, especially in difficult and rural areas, where the environment is not so comfort-friendly for doctors.
