Chandigarh 19th May:- As envisioned by Bhawna Garg, Chairperson UTCPS cum Secretary Social Welfare, Women and Child Development, an awareness program was organised by the Union Territory Child Protection Society (UTCPS) under the aegis of Department of Social Welfare, Women & Child Development, Chandigarh Administration program on "Child Rights and Child Protection Issues" in collaboration with Government Medical College & Hospital, Sector-32, Chandigarh for their Nursing staff.
The program was attended by approximately 100 nurses of GMCH-32, Chandigarh. The program included a session on "Adoption and Safe Abandonment of children" by Preeti Saini, Program Officer (State Adoption Resource Agency). The session highlighted adoption- the process through which the adopted child is permanently separated from his biological parents and becomes the lawful child of his adoptive parents with all the rights, privileges and responsibilities that are attached to a biological child and it is mandatory to report a child found separated from guardian to the children's services, police station and Child Welfare Committee and District Child Protection Unit under Juvenile Justice Act 2015. The session on "Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012" was taken by Ms. Tabhsum Khan, Program Officer (Juvenile in Conflict with Law). The mentioned law came into force in the year 2012. The act is gender neutral and covers sexual offences against children. The session was followed by screening of inspirational Short Film "Farishtay" based on child labour and foster care.
